Hey everyone! Just wanted to post and let everyone know whats going on. Britlyn finally has seen the Neurologist and is on medication to sleep and will start Botox injections in a couple of months to loosen her tight muscles. We have one month to get some weight on her or we will be forced to put a G-tube (feeding tube) in. So hopefully in one month I will have some good news about some weight gain. I just don't think i could handle another surgery right now.
Now on to Brooklyn. She is getting so funny. She walks and talks (simple words mama, dada, baba, bye bye etc). She has 4 teeth! She is running with Maddie and learning how to get into trouble! She is a handful. I hope to have pics soon if they will let me take their pics!

Britlyn's New Arm!!!!!

We are so excited Britlyn got her new arm today! She was a little fussy at first but quickly started moving it around. She is such a trooper. She also got her "AFO's" (braces for her feet) today as well. She really doesn't like the AFO's. What they do is stretch her foot into a flexed position like your foot would be when you are standing up. This is uncomfortable for her now but will make her muscles more flexible for walking. I will post pictures of her soon!

Britlyn's Prosthetic

We went to the Scottish Rite Limb Center yesterday and we recieved really good news! Britlyn tryied on a partial part of her new arm and it fit nicely. We are scheduled to get it on May 19th!!! While we were there they also fit her for her leg braces, she will wear these to keep her feet in flex to make sure she doesn't get too tight. We picked a purple butterfly pattern for the braces they are going to look adorable. We are very excited that we are moving forward with helping her acheive some of her goals. Stay tuned for pictures of our new equipment.

Our Birthday Girls!

One Year birthday!!!!

Can you believe the girls are going to be a year old? Where has time gone. I makes me want to cry my babies are growing up in such a hurry. I guess because they are the last of my babies I want them to take their time growing up. I will be so sad when I don't have little babies anymore. I guess I can look forward to grand babies. Hopefully in a long long long time. Just think my oldest baby will be driving in 4 years! What, 4 years! Life seems to pass by so quickly, if we could only slow it down.
Update on Britlyn: She is bringing her hands to her mouth more often now. We have just ordered a splint for her hand. She seems to be double jointed in her thumb and needs to keep it out rather than in. hard to explain but this splint is needed. It costs an arm and a leg but what can you do she needs it.
Update on Brooklyn: Mommy's big girl is almost walking! What am I going to do when I have Maddie and Brooklyn up to no good. God help us all! I think we have finally figured out what she is alergic to. We think it is her formula. We switched her to a hypoalergenic formula and she is doing a lot better. Lets keep our fingers crossed!
Good news! The babies and our family aregoing to be featured in the hall county magazine for the month of May! They are local celebrities! I will let you know when and where to get a copy. We are very excited to tell our story to the community.
Anthony and I would like to thank all of you for your support and prayers during this journey called "The Caruso Twins". I will be posting pictures in a couple of days so you can see how much they have grown.

Britlyn's Orthopedic Appointment

Good news, we had our orthopedic appointment today and our Dr. looked at Britlyn's arm and said it looks great so far. He is hoping that her humerous bone will not grow through her skin. But so far everything looks good. He also x-rayed her hips to see if she shows any signs of hip displasia luckily her hips look good. He did advise us that she could develope hip problems in the future but remain optomistic. Thank you to all of you who have prayed and supported us. We appreciate you all.
On to Maddie news, she is itching to be back in school. We are currently looking into a mothers morning out but they can be expensive. Hopefully we can get in some where because she is driving us crazy.
Tyler and Sky have also been busy. Tyler and Anthony built a firetruck for the pinewood derby for cub scouts. They worked really hard and won 4th place! Sky and I have been working on her competition jazz dance. Its coming along. Sky will compete in March. She is getting really excited.
So as usual we are busy, busy, busy!

GOOD NEWS!

Hey everyone! We got excellent news at the doctors on Friday. Britlyn is NOT having seizures like we thought. (paranoid parents) And Brooklyn for now does not have hydrocephalus! YEAH!!!!!!!!! I feel like we get from every which way sometimes but when we get good news it doesn't matter!!!! We are so happy. We also visited the limb center while we were there and they told us Britlyn was still too small to have a prostetic right now so we will have to wait. They did let us borrow some equipment needed for her to sit up and stand so we are very excited to use it. I ahve decided to apply for social security disability for her. I have heard its a tough road to travel. Unfortunatly they don't make it easy for people who really need and deserve it. You know how everyone says motherhood is a full time job, well I guess I work some serious OVERTIME! I often wonder how I do it all but i guess you do what ya have to do!

Well keep your fingers crossed. The girls go to see the neurologist this friday. Hopefully he will say everything is a-ok! We need some good news. I 'll post as soon as we hear something. Check back friday!

Twins 9 month Check up!

Hope you are all well. The twins are going for their 9 month check-up on Friday! They are getting to be such BIG girls. I'm so proud when I look at them and think back on how tiny and helpless they were when they were staying in the NICU. Oh how time flies when you have 5 kids!
We are thinking that Britlyn has started having mild seizures. She has started doing something very unusual and hard to explain. We are going to see the neurologist on the 22nd of this month. This could be a sign of "shunt malfunction". That means if its true we will have to have shunt surgery again:( I have just learned that it will never end. And I'm ok with that. My goal in life is now to help my children succeed to their fullest. I will keep you all posted on how Britlyn is doing. All I ask of everyone isto keep her in your prayers. I beleive it was the power of prayer that let my girls live! So keep on a prayin!!!!! We love you all lots and we'll keep you posted!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

2009 OMG! Can you believe the twins will be ONE in just three months. Even though we have had lots of ups and downs, sleepless nights and a lot of hard work it feels like they were just born yesterday. Funny how that is. When your in the moment it feels like eternity.
Last night we (the kids and I) went to the fire station because of course Daddy always seems to work on holidays. Just as we rang in the new year the fire tones went off and out the door Daddy went. Just our luck! It turned out to be just a grass fire due to fireworks! So Daddy was back at the station in no time. We as a family have learned to be very flexible with his job but we wouldn't trade the people he works with for nothing. They are our family. I can walk into the station with ALL five kids and immediately they come running to get a baby or pick up Maddie to play! We are truly blessed to be surrounded by good people! I hope everyone has started the year off to a good start!
